FAQ’s The Designer • How do I choose the right designer for me? Once you have had your initial consultation, only you can decide how you feel about each Designer. My advice would be go for the one that you feel more comfortable with and feel like your opinions matters. The one you feel you can trust in your home and who you think can give you the best service and recommendations. • What experience do you have? I am a fully qualified Interior Designer through The Interior Design Institute and also a fully qualified Home Stager and Property Stylist through CHSSP. Both are accredited courses. • Can I see more samples of your work? Some samples of my projects are on the website for you to peruse.
- How far would you travel for a project?
I live in York and would be prepared to travel locally although please contact me if you live further afield as there may be options for me to travel further afield.
- Can you work with me if I’m based in another country?
I offer various E-Styling Services which are all detailed on my website, which are perfect for those living in another country. The Process
- How do we get started?
Please email me in the first instance with any questions that you may have that my website has not answered. I am more than happy to meet up for a coffee or chat over the phone to discuss any concerns you may have and to help you reach a decision.
- What happens at the first consultation?
I will travel to your property and we will discuss in detail how your home currently works for you, how you would like it to work for you and we will discuss your likes, dislikes and go through designs for inspiration. • How long will the first meeting last? The meeting will last no longer than two hours. • How long will our project take? This all depends on the scale of what work is required. This will be discussed after the initial consultation and in the report provided.
- How involved in the process will I need to be?
You can be as involved as you wish or not. This is entirely up to you. I do need your input in the consultation process and regular checks throughout the project to make sure you are happy at each stage.
- What if I an unhappy with your designs?
If you are unhappy at any stage of the process we can discuss this at the time and resolve matters. If you are purchasing a Home Staging Report, I cannot guarantee that every client will like my recommendations. I do however, provide one more revision free of charge. Following that, any revisions will be charged at £50 per hour. Fees and Regulations
- Is there a contract?
Yes. You will be provided with a Contract when the initial report is sent out to confirm you are happy with all recommendations and wish me to go ahead with the Project.
- Are interior designers required to be licensed?
We are required to hold Indemnity Insurance which protects yourself and your property. I am fully insured. • How do you charge If you are purchasing a Home Styling Report this is a one-off fee. If however you wish me to carry out the full Project Management of Styling your property, this is charged at an hourly rate.
- How do I work out a budget?
Only you will know what you can afford and what budget you can go up to. This is to be discussed at initial consultation so we can adapt the project to meet your budget. • Do you charge for your first meeting? Initial Consultation is £100. If you wish me to carry out the works on your behalf then this will be deducted from the final costs More Questions
- What if the designer imposes their ideas instead of getting my personal taste?
This is not the case in how I work. I want the client to be happy in their home. This is why a detailed questionnaire is required to be filled in at Consultation to enable this from happening. • How do I know I will get an interior designer that designs in the style I like? We will go through design styles, like and dislikes prior to the project commencing. This will help the Designer choose the right style for you. If you like the projects on the Designers website then there is a good chance that you will like the styles that the Designer chooses.
- I don’t know what style I want – can you still help?
Definitely. We will go through various styles in detail until you decide on what you like.
- What if an interior designer suggests a style I don’t like?
No designer should push a design onto you if you don’t like it. They are the professionals and can visualise it which is why you have hired them but if there is something that you really dislike then this needs to be discussed as early as possible to be resolved. • Can you integrate my favourite pieces of furniture or accessories into the design? Of course. Again this will be discussed at the Consultation where you can show the Designer what pieces of furniture or accessories need to stay in the property, which the designer will work around when designing your property.
